Charges dismissed in Quinlan ISD burglary

GREENVILLE — Charges have been dropped against a Quinlan man, one of two people who had been indicted in connection with a break-in at a Quinlan Independent School District building.

One count each of burglary of a building and unauthorized use of a vehicle, which had been filed against Thomas Jake Payne, 22, were dismissed during a Wednesday hearing in the 196th District Court.

The Hunt County District Attorney’s Office had filed motions seeking the dismissal of the charges due to insufficient evidence.

Chance Dakota Jeffcoat of Quinlan pleaded guilty in March to five charges, including the burglary and unauthorized use of a vehicle indictments, and was sentenced to state jail.

Jeffcoat and Payne were alleged in the indictments to have broken into a Quinlan ISD building on Sept. 29, 2012 and to have stolen a 2012 Ford Fusion; as well as tools, keys, a radiator, copper and other items.
