Two shot, one killed in Rockwall by former Hunt County constable,

Suspect injured following shoot-out with DPS

Greenville — Two individuals were shot Saturday night and one died from her injuries at an off-site parking lot near The Harbor Shopping Center in Rockwall, and the suspect led law enforcement officers on a chase from Rockwall to Hunt County before he was wounded in a shoot-out in Greenville.

The suspect was identified as Anthony Dewayne Lewis, 47, by the Rockwall Police Department.

“Upon arrival, responding officers found two victims, a male and a female, who had been shot multiple times,” the release read. “The suspect fled the scene but was identified as the ex-boyfriend of the female victim.”

Lewis was chased by DPS, the Rockwall Police Department and the Royse City Department to just west of Monty Stratton Parkway, where he his car was spiked.

“The pursuit ended in Greenville, Texas when the suspect’s vehicle suffered mechanical problems after being spiked and ramming a Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle,” the release read.

Lewis pointed a handgun at the officers, according to Rockwall police, and was shot by officers on the scene. He was transported to Hunt Regional Healthcare in Greenville before being flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for treatment.

The female victim died at a local hospital.

“Both victims were transported to area hospitals but the female victim succumbed to her injuries,” the release read.

The Rockwall shooting is currently under investigation by Rockwall Police detectives. The Hunt County shooting is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.

Lewis had served as Constable for Precinct 2, but was defeated in the May 2012 primary.

Westbound lanes of Interstate 30 were shut down for more than an hour. RPD received the call at approximately 8 p.m.
