Motorists should be able to drive from Interstate 30 directly to Paris Junior College in Greenville or Greenville High School by the end of January.
Director of Public Works Massoud Ebrahim said work on constructing the Monty Stratton Parkway almost done.
“We are wrapping up,” Ebrahim said. “If the weather cooperates with us, by the end of this month we should be able to open the road.”
The parkway will be two concrete lanes with a raised median and open ditches on either side between the interstate and Lions Lair Road. A sidewalk will run along one side of the roadway and two crossovers were included under the project.
One of the crossovers will allow access to the Greenville SportsPark and the other will allow for a direct connection between the high school and the college.
Ebrahim said crews are installing lights in the median and hydromulching along the roadway.
“Just odds and ends,” Ebrahim said. “The project is 99 percent completed.”
Ground was broken in May, and the L.H. Lacy Company is the contractor on the project.
If the area does develop as expected, the parkway can be expanded to the originally planned four lanes, with a bike trail.
