Chase beginning in Greenville ends with shooting in McKinney

GREENVILLE — A car chase that began in Greenville ended with a suspect being shot in the leg by a law enforcement officer in McKinney.

Greenville police received a call Wednesday afternoon of a possible wanted person in the area of the 3800 block of Lee Street. The individual was reported to be the passenger in a 2012 Nissan.

According to a release from the Greenville Police Department, officers Bobby Wooldridge and Perry Sandlin responded to a call and located the vehicle.

“When the officers attempted to stop the car, the driver refused to yield and continued navigating through portions of northern Greenville, eventually turning north onto US 60,” the release read.

The pursuit continued through Hunt and Fannin counties until SH 121, where the driver turned south toward Collin County. According to the report, the driver turned onto US 380 in McKinney, where spikes were deployed and the vehicle was partially disabled.

“The driver, a 39-year-old white male, refused to exit the vehicle and had to be removed by officers on the scene,” the report read. “During this time, a shot was fired by an unknown source, striking the passenger of the vehicle in the leg. Both the driver and passenger, a 26-year-old white female, were transported to a local hospital.”

The names of the individuals and the identity of the officer who shot the suspect were not available at press time, although the press release stated that there is no belief that any GPD officer was responsible for firing the shot. The Texas Rangers have been called in by Collin County to investigate the shooting. Chargers will be filed at large on the driver of the vehicle.
