Most Wanted fish

GREENVILLE — The area’s youngest anglers will get a chance at three hours of fun and fishing Friday, as law enforcement officials again remember one of their own.

The 17th Annual David Dickson Memorial Fishing Friday is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Graham Park.

Fishing Friday typically draws hundreds of children from across Greenville and the surrounding area.

Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, soldiers and elected officials will be on hand to fish with the children. Police vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks and a helicopter will also be on display.

The Greenville Police Department will provide fishing equipment and a hot dog lunch.

Dickson was named as the Greenville Police Department’s Crime Prevention Officer shortly before he passed away in June 2005. Dickson was also the chief of the Commerce Emergency Corps and a member of the agency’s dive team and had been Greenville’s only Litter Abatement Officer, a position he had filled for seven years prior to his being named Crime Prevention Officer.

Fishing Friday is one of the activities hosted by the Greenville Police Department at part of the annual Summer of Safety program.

Swimming Friday at Ja-Lu Pool is set for June 28, Movie Friday will be July 5 at Greenville Middle School, Skating Friday rolls out on July 12 at Skate Safari and the Teen Police Academy will be held July 15-19.

Those wanting more information about any of the Summer of Safety program can contact Officer Richard Calender at 903-453-0435 or by email at rcalender@ci.greenville.tx.us or can contact Officer James Hamilton at 903-453-0432 or by email at jhamilton@ci.greenville.tx.us.
