Council set to hear from department heads

GREENVILLE — The Greenville City Council is continuing efforts to prepare next year’s city budget well in advance.

During Tuesday’s work session, the council intends to hear from some department heads as to what they may need and what they can live without in the next fiscal year. The work session is set to start at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street.

The council is set to hear from Acting Parks & Recreation Director Kimber Patterson, Library Director Paul Phelan and Main Street Manager Doyle Dick during the session. As the meeting is a workshop, no action can be taken by the council on the items.

The current City of Greenville budget is funded by a property tax rate of 69.9 cents per $100 valuation, and includes a little more than $20.9 million in expenditures, and $20.7 million in revenues.  A new city budget and tax rate have to be adopted by September 31.
