Early voting ending today

Today is the last chance Hunt County voters will have to cast early ballots for Saturday’s municipal and special elections, including bonds for a new YMCA/event center in Greenville and alcohol sales in Campbell.

Early voting continues between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. today at the Hunt County Voter Administration Office, 2217A Washington Street in Greenville.

Extended early voting for the Commerce Independent School District election will be at Commerce City Hall, 1119 Alamo in Commerce, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. today.

Hunt County Elections Administrator Mina Cook said another 192 people cast early ballots Monday in the City of Greenville elections, with another 33 ballots cast for the other elections across the county which are being conducted through Cook’s office.

Through Monday evening, 786 people had voted early in the City of Greenville municipal and special elections, with 135 people casting early ballots in the other county races.

Voters in Greenville are casting votes for the Place 1 City Council race between incumbent Council member Dan Perkins and Tyson Cox,  whether to approve $12.6 million in bonds to pay for the reconstruction of nine local streets, whether to approve $15 million in bonds for a new YMCA/event center for Greenville and the fate of 30 proposed amendments to the City of Greenville Charter.

City Council races are also being held in the cities of Celeste, Lone Oak, Quinlan, Union Valley, and Wolfe City. School board races are being conducted for the Caddo Mills, Campbell, Commerce and Lone Oak school districts.

Residents of the City of Campbell are deciding whether to use a portion of the sales tax revenue collected by the city to fix local streets, while a separate item on the ballot asks voters if they are in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages in local stores.

Polls will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. A list of polling locations will be included in Saturday’s edition of the Herald-Banner.
