The Greenville Independent School District will be holding on to the site of the former Travis Elementary School a little longer, as no one has offered to buy the property.
Sealed bids were due Wednesday afternoon and the district had set a minimum bid of $70,000 for the site, which included both the building at 3005 Division Street and the surrounding property.
But the district’s Chief Financial Officer David Carter said Thursday that not a single bid had been placed.
Kelli Tharp, Greenville ISD director of community service, said Superintendent Don Jefferies intends to present the information to the board of trustees to determine how to proceed.
Travis Elementary School was consolidated with the Greenville Sixth Grade Center at the start of the 2010/2011 school year, after the elementary school building developed structural problems due to its age.
District officials say there are no immediate plans to build another elementary, as the situation with the two schools sharing the one campus at 3201 Stanford Street appears to be working well.
