Birthday party set tonight for Moore

GREENVILLE — Supporters of the late Alicia Chanta Moore plan to gather tonight to celebrate her life, on what would have been Moore’s 17th birthday.

A party is being held in honor of Moore, a local teenager whose November murder remains unsolved.

Officials with the Greenville Police Department indicated no new information is being released about the case. A $25,000 reward remains active for tips leading to the person or persons responsible for Moore’s death.

“The Alicia Moore Memorial Block Party” is scheduled starting at 6 p.m. in the 1900 block of Gibbons Street in Greenville. Organizers said the free event will include a DJ and food and will feature music including 90s, hip-hop, reggae and more.

Moore was last seen on the afternoon of Nov. 2, 2012 getting off of a school bus at the intersection of Bourland and Walnut Streets in Greenville, a short distance from her home.

Her body was found  four days later along FM 47 in Van Zandt County and the Greenville Police Department has joined with multiple other agencies in conducting a homicide investigation in the case.

The $25,000 reward was begun last month.

The reward is being offered through $5,000 contributions each from Hunt County Crime Stoppers, the Hunt County and Van Zandt County District Attorney’s Offices, the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office and Xerox, where Moore’s mother, Aretha Moore is employed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hunt County Crime Stoppers at 903-457-2929.
