Forecast calling for wet weekend

GREENVILLE — A wet weekend is in the forecast, especially Saturday, which is a good thing as Hunt County remains listed under moderate drought conditions and the level on Lake Tawakoni continues to fall.

After a low in the 40s overnight, the National Weather Service was predicting today’s high temperature to climb to around 68 degrees, with winds out of the north and with a low dipping back down to 46 by Saturday morning.

The winds are forecast to shift back out of the south/southeast as showers and thunderstorms develop over the area, with the greatest chance of rain during the afternoon. The showers are expected to remain into Saturday and Sunday morning.

According to the United States Drought Monitor, Hunt County and the surrounding area remain listed under a moderate drought.

The information was released Thursday, although the measurements were taken locally Tuesday morning.

The level on Lake Tawakoni Thursday was reported to be 428.45 feet, down 9.05 feet from the spillway. The lake was 65.6 percent full Thursday afternoon.

Cities served by the North Texas Municipal Water District remain under Stage 3 outdoor watering restrictions, which means residential and business customers are limited to landscape watering with sprinkler or irrigation systems once every seven days. Other restrictions apply, depending on the city.
