FISH assistance sign-ups continue

Registration continues this week for families seeking assistance for Thanksgiving and Christmas through Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH).

Sign-ups for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets are scheduled between 9 a.m. and noon today and Tuesday and Oct. 30 at the FISH headquarters, 2305 King Street in Greenville.

Applications for assistance will also be accepted between 2 and 4 p.m. Thursday at the Commerce Emergency Food Pantry at First Presbyterian Church, 1216 Monroe Street; and at the First United Methodist Church of Commerce, 1709 State Highway 50, between 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday

Applicants will need to complete a registration form, show a picture ID as well as a lease agreement or mortgage statement and a current utility bill that matches the address on the registration form. Applicants can sign up for both Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance with one form.

Distribution for the baskets will take place the morning of Saturday, Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving and the morning of Saturday, Dec. 21 for Christmas. Commerce-area residents will be able to pick up their baskets at the First United Methodist Church in Commerce.

There will be no other dates made available for pickup, although applicants may list one other person who lives at their address to pick up their basket.

A confirmation card will be mailed out to each qualifying household with an assigned location to pick up their Thanksgiving basket. Applicants will need to retain their confirmation card until the day of the event. A separate confirmation card will be mailed for Christmas. No photocopies of confirmation cards or photo ID will be accepted.

Those wanting additional information can contact FISH Executive Director Wally Jeffers at 903-455-0545 or wjeffers@hcsmfish.org.
