Kiwanis Club gets ready for annual auction

GREENVILLE — For more than six decades, the Greenville Kiwanis Club has conducted a yearly auction to raise funds which benefit local children.

The tradition continues Saturday, with the 62nd Annual Kiwanis Children’s Charity Auction.

The event is moving to the Fletcher Warren Civic Center, 5501 U.S. Highway 69 South in Greenville. A lunch and silent auction begins at 1 p.m., with the live auction starting at 2 p.m. and continuing until the bidding is completed. Shoppers are invited to participate in the auction by watching on GEUS Channel 34 and calling in their bids to 903-457-2886, from inside the civic center, or through the live broadcast of the event on KGVL 1400 AM.

Dozens of items will be up for sale to the highest bidder during the auction, all donated by local individuals and businesses.

Lists of the items up for bid will be included in today’s and Saturday’s editions of the Herald-Banner.

There will also be several “Big Board” items available for purchase, including the priceless and commemorative Kiwanis Maltese Falcon.

With a motto of “Young Children Are Priority One”, all of the funds raised by the Kiwanis auction go toward providing assistance to an assortment of local agencies and programs which help the youth of the community, including scholarships for local high school students.

Clothe a Child, Special Olympics, Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH), Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Women In Need and Tools for School are among the organizations which benefit from funds raised during each year’s auctions.
