Early starters to fall semester

GREENVILLE — One local school is getting a jump on the other school districts in Hunt County, starting its fall semester today.

Greenville Christian School, 8420 Jack Finney Boulevard, will be conducting the first day of school this morning.

Today also means the start of school zones next to the school along Jack Finney. School zones mean reduced speed from the start of the zone to the end of the zone, rather than slowing down after you arrive and speeding up before you exit.

Greenville Police Department officers are scheduled to be on hand to monitor and enforce the local school zones.

All other schools and school districts in Hunt County — including Bland, Boles, Caddo Mills, Campbell, Celeste, Commerce, Greenville, Lone Oak, Quinlan, Royse City and the Phoenix Charter School — are scheduled to start the fall semester on Monday, Aug. 26.

Children should be instructed to cross streets at crosswalks, especially if crossing guards are available.

Passing a stopped school bus is illegal and can land motorists in jail if the bus driver reports them. When a bus is stopped, motorists on either side of the road must stop until the bus driver pulls in the “stop” sign and turns off the flashing lights.
