Still no jury selected in capital murder case

GREENVILLE — Three weeks of interviews of potential jurors have not resulted in the selection of a jury in the pending trial of a Greenville man, charged with capital murder involving the 2011 shooting death of his ex-wife.

A new jury pool is being brought in Monday in the case of Micah Crofford Brown, charged in connection with the death of Stella Michelle “Doc” Ray. Brown has pleaded not guilty.

The assembly of an initial jury pool was conducted in the 354th District Court on March 27.  District Court Judge Richard A. Beacom had called for 400 potential jurors to be summoned to appear on that date. The questioning of individual jurors began April 1.

“We are still in the selection process,” Hunt County District Attorney Noble D. Walker Jr. said Friday. “Monday we have another panel coming in. We have some more prospective jurors coming in.”

A date for the start of testimony in the trial had not been set as of Friday.

Prosecutors have announced they intend to seek death by lethal injection as a punishment for Brown, should he be convicted of capital murder.

Ray, a Caddo Mills school teacher, was shot and killed in Greenville on the night of July 29, 2011.

Brown, 33, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $1.5 million bond.
