Forecast calls for big changes ahead in weather

GREENVILLE — Some big changes in the weather are expected during the next couple of days.

After another sunny day and an afternoon high closing in on 90 degrees Tuesday, Hunt County and North Texas are in line for some possibly severe thunderstorms by Thursday morning, followed by a steep drop in the temperatures by Thursday afternoon.

The high temperature at Majors Field Municipal Airport in Greenville rose to 88 degrees Tuesday, with a low expected around 70 overnight. The National Weather Service was calling for a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms by this afternoon, with a high near 81 and winds gusting out of the south at up to 30 mph.

There was a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast during the overnight hours mainly after 1 a.m. Thursday, with winds continuing to gust out of the south as high as 30 mph.

There is an 80 percent chance of showers and storms in the forecast for Thursday morning, with winds becoming northwest at up to 25 mph during the afternoon and with a high of 67 degrees and a low around 37 degrees Thursday night.

A hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service indicated the greatest threat of severe weather would be Thursday morning, with chances of damaging winds and large hail as the primary dangers.

The high Friday is expected to only reach the upper 50s.
