Police chase ends with suspect shot in Greenville

Greenville — UPDATE: 11:27 p.m.: A spokesperson for DPS said that DPS officers saw the suspect produce a handgun before the shootout. The Rockwall Police Department, Royse City Police Department and DPS were involved in the chase.

UPDATE 10:42 p.m.: An individual speaking on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to release information has identified the suspect as former Hunt County constable Anthony Lewis.

UPDATE 10:31 p.m.: A DPS investigator has confirmed that two individuals were shot in Rockwall, a police chase ended in Greenville, and the suspect exchanged gunfire with DPS officers. He could not confirm if the suspect was shot by a DPS officer, and he said it was possible that the suspect's injury was self-inflicted.

Two individuals were shot at an off-site parking lot near the Harbor Shopping Center in Rockwall, and the suspect led law enforcement on a chase from Rockwall to Garland to Hunt County, before he was shot by a law enforcement officer just west of Monty Stratton Parkway in Greenville.

The suspect was taken to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, according to Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks.

The condition of the victims and the suspect is unknown at this time. The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office was involved in the chase, according to Meeks, and there have been no reports of an injuries to law enforcement officers.

The Greenville Police Department was not involved in the incident. Westbound lanes of I-30 were shut down and we are currently waiting on a statement from DPS.
