Work on Hopkins County bridge repairs delayed

GREENVILLE — Work has been delayed on emergency repairs to a bridge across Interstate 30 in Hopkins County.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced in late February that emergency repairs were starting to the pavement at the bridge approach on westbound Interstate 30, just east of Sulphur Springs at Rock Creek.

TxDOT officials announced Tuesday that the project has been put on hold due to settlement issues discovered on one of the supporting structures:

“TxDOT’s Construction Division in Austin has been consulted about the situation and will be sending personnel to conduct load testing during the week of April 8. After this testing is complete they will be able to determine the extent of the problem, tell whether additional settlement can be expected, and recommend an appropriate action. There is no threat to the integrity of the bridge structure and no danger to the public.  In the meantime work on these bridges has been suspended. The traveling public can expect some delays during peak travel times and on holidays due to the lane closure on westbound Interstate 30  between Mile Markers 128 and 129.  Advanced messages are in place informing of the lane closure. Motorists are encouraged to proceed with caution through this area and to obey all warning signs and traffic control devices in the construction work zone.  The lane closure on westbound Interstate 30 is anticipated to be in place until the end of June 2013 and project completed in July 2013."
