A section of Washington Street was shut down for about an hour Wednesday as a joint SWAT team consisting of units from the Commerce Police Department, University Police Department, and the Hopkins County/Sulphur Springs SWAT team executed a narcotics warrant.
The bust, which resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure an udisclosed amount of cocaine, took place at 2104 Washington, near the intersection of Washington and Maple streets. The individual’s name was not released as of press time, as the person had not been arraigned.
According to Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews, one team secured the perimeter, while the other team breached the house. Cars were directed off of Stonewall and onto Monroe while the units were conducting the search.
“We’re making a big effort to work with surrounding areas with drug interdiction,” Crews said. “The assistance from Sulphur Springs was of a great asset today. They helped us out a lot, and we hope to work more in the future with them.”
According to Crews, the individual will be charged the manufacturing and delivery of more than four grams but less than 200 grams of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
