GREENVILLE — Local residents and Facebook fans are being asked to help choose the playground equipment to be installed at a City of Greenville park.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be taking votes on its Facebook page through 8 a.m. Friday on the playground for Oak Creek Park.

The Greenville City Council included $40,000 for the renovation of Oak Creek Park as part of $2.5 million in certificates of obligation it issued in February.

The park located at the intersection of FM 1570 and Aerobic Lane currently features ball fields, grills, a jogging trail, a pavilion, playgrounds, picnic tables and restrooms and is a popular location for youth soccer games.

The Parks and Recreation Board decided to spruce up a park on the south end of Greenville and chose Oak Creek as the next in line for an upgrade, after recent renovations at Warren Park and Graham Park.

Parks and VanGundy said the Parks Board wanted to pay some attention to the south end of Greenville and decided on Oak Creek.

Parks and Recreation Director Colby VanGundy has explained much of the work, which would be similar to the upgrades at Warren Park, as possible will be done in-house to save money.
