National Day of Prayer observances set

Hunt County residents will be gathering in Greenville and Lone Oak Thursday to participate in the local observances of the 62nd Annual National Day of Prayer.

“Pray for American: Matthew 12:21” is the theme for this year’s event, with activities scheduled starting at noon Thursday on the north steps of the Hunt County Courthouse, 2500 Lee Street and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lone Oak Civic Center

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

Local clergy and laity are expected to participate Thursday in prayers for local, state and federal governments, as well as for government leaders, youth, schools and the community as a whole.

This year’s event in Greenville is being sponsored by the Greenville Ministers Fellowship and the Greenville Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.
