Preparing to Pause for the Pledge

GREENVILLE — Visitors to this year’s Hunt County Fair will again have an opportunity to take part in a local salute to patriotism and the American Flag during the annual Flag Day ceremonies.

Local ceremonies for the nationwide observance of Flag Day and the annual “Pause for the Pledge” are scheduled Friday evening at the Bud Light Entertainment Center at the Hunt County Fairgrounds.

The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution will present the local Flag Day ceremonies, starting at 5:45 p.m., with the event timed to coincide with the moment, at 7 p.m. Eastern time (6 p.m. local time), when everyone across the nation is asked to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

The event will also feature a presentation and demonstration on the history of the flag.

Since 1988, the Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter has helped promote patriotism through educational programs at area schools, such as oratory contests and citizenship awards.

Many years ago, former Greenville Mayor “Pete” Gladding asked the organization to take over the city’s annual Flag Day ceremony and to keep it going.
