Commerce man indicted for 10th felony offense

GREENVILLE — A Commerce resident has been indicted on a charge of felony theft, for allegedly attempting to steal merchandise from a Commerce store.

Tarance Eugene Hall already had nine prior felony convictions on his record, before receiving the latest charge from the Hunt County grand jury.

The grand jury also indicted another Commerce man on a charge of felony criminal mischief, for allegedly setting a fire in a Commerce apartment on New Year’s Day.

Hall, 49, also known as Terance Eugene Hall, was indicted February 28 on one count of theft of property of the value of less than $1,500, with two prior convictions for theft. The indictment alleged Hall attempted to steal items includeing video game systems and games from the Commerce Walmart on Dec. 12, 2013.

The indictment indicated Hall had two prior misdemeanor theft convictions, in June 1991 and September 1998, along with four prior felony theft convictions, two convictions for possession of a controlled substance and one prior conviction each for delivery of a controlled substance, escape and robbery.

Hall remained in custody at the Hunt County Jail Wednesday in lieu of $5,000 bond.

The grand jury issued one indictment for criminal mischief in the amount of between $1,500 and $20,000 against Ibkun Washington, 45, of Commerce. Washington was alleged to have set a fire inside a local apartment on January 1. Washington was originally arrested by the Commerce Police Department on a charge of arson in connection with the incident and remained in custody at the jail Wednesday in lieu of $30,000 bond.
