GREENVILLE — Local law enforcement is reporting the New Year’s holiday came and went rather quietly.

There were multiple alcohol and drug arrests reported during the period, but no violent offenses.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said he was on patrol until about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

“We had the usual calls for fireworks and alcohol related disturbances,” Meeks said. “The Hunt County Detention Center booked in eight individuals between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6 am. Wednesday The charges varied from public intoxication to DWI. For a New Years Eve night, it was pretty quiet. I am hoping all the advertisements about drinking and driving has finally sunk in to a lot of folks.”

The Greenville Police Department was a little busier, with officers making 11 arrests between Tuesday morning and Wednesday night, about half of which allegedly involved alcohol and/or drugs. Three people were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of marijuana.
