Commissioners not applying for TxDOT grant

GREENVILLE — The Hunt County Commissioners Court has decided against seeking grant funding which may have gone to help pay for damage to county roads.

The commissioners took no action Friday concerning an application for a County Energy Transportation Reinvestment Zone (CETRZ) grant from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The commissioners voted earlier this month to authorize County Judge John Horn to investigate whether the county would be eligible for up to $168,235 in funds from the grant program.

According to the official TxDOT definition, a CETRZ is “a specific contiguous zone, in a county that is determined to be affected because of oil and gas exploration and production activities,  around a planned transportation project that is established as a method to facilitate capture of the property tax increment arising from the planned project.”

Horn had said each commissioner would have to investigate which county roads, if any, were eligible to receive reimbursement from TxDOT under the program.

The issue was referred to an executive session Friday, but Horn said no action was taken upon the commissioners returning to the regular session.

“We got no motion on it, so it was dropped,” Horn said. “I don’t think it was specifically directed for the needs we have.”
