Salvation Army facing gap in funding

GREENVILLE — The Salvation Army is appealing to the community for support to make Christmas brighter for the families in Greenville.

With only about a week to go until Christmas, The Salvation Army is currently behind in its holiday fundraising goal.

This year’s Red Kettle campaign is shorter by a vital seven days due to the lateness of the Thanksgiving holiday on the calendar. This, as well as the unexpected spell of winter weather in Texas, has significantly impacted the Army’s fundraising in Greenville.

Donations coming in between now and the end of the year are critically important to The Salvation Army’s ability to meet needs right here in the local community.

“We have seen an increase in requests for assistance this Christmas and when you consider that we actually have fewer days available to ring the bells at the kettles, this is a real challenge,” explained Sgt. Wes Trueblood. “Our fundraising efforts are doing well on individual days, but the lost time is hurting us. The Salvation Army is committed to providing food to families who have come to us for help, and gifts to the children this Christmas. I am appealing to the people of Greenville not to pass the kettle without putting in a donation.”

Indeed, November and December is the biggest Salvation Army fundraising effort of the year, not only supporting important Christmas assistance, but also providing essential funds that sustain year round programs that help individuals and families with utilities, rent, food boxes, clothing, furniture and much more.

The Salvation Army is encouraging the public to donate generously to the red kettles found on street corners, in malls, and at local retailers, or online at www.salvationarmytexas.org.

Donations can also be mailed to the local Salvation Army center at 4601 King Street, Greenville, 75401, or given by phone at 1-800-SAL-ARMY.

Please don’t forget to give at The Salvation Army red kettles this season.
