GREENVILLE — The Greenville Independent School District board has agreed to sell the site of the former Travis Elementary School.

The winning bid came in just a little below the district’s original asking price for the property and there were no details immediately released as to what the new owner intends to do with the building and land at 3005 Division Street.

The Greenville ISD board voted 7-0 Tuesday night to approve a bid of $16,675 from David Phelps of Rockwall “and nominee.”

The property had received a single bid prior to the July 22 deadline. No bids were received during two previous attempts to sell the site building and surrounding land.

When reached Wednesday afternoon Phelps, who works as a “seller finance transaction specialist” said he could not comment on the purchase nor on what his plans were for the site.

The district had previously sought sealed bids on the site, first with a minimum bid of $75,000 and then with a minimum bid of $70,000, but did not receive a single offer.

There were no minimum bids attached to the sale this time around.

Assistant Superintendent Bruce Shores said he had shown the building to prospective buyers on multiple occasions.

Travis Elementary School was consolidated with the Greenville Sixth Grade Center at the start of the 2010/2011 school year.
