Wreck on interstate claims life

A local man was killed in a traffic accident early Thursday morning after his truck collided with an 18-wheeler near the Division Street exit.

Landon B. Dyer, 28, of Sulphur Springs, was driving on the wrong side of Highway I-30 Eastbound when his 2010 Chevy Silverado collided with an 18-wheeler at approximately 2:30 a.m., killing him. The driver of the truck, who was not identified by press time, was in stable condition in a local hospital. He was driving a trailer for D.A.T., an Alabama-based company.

The accident backed up I-30E for more than 10 hours following the crash as Texas DPS and emergency personnel worked the scene. Traffic exited at Division Street and reentered the highway after driving around the overpass. Two trucks later unloaded the cargo stored aboard the 18-wheeler.

Texas DPS is continuing their investigation into the incident, but State Trooper Kyle Bradford said that there is some indication that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

The wreck was one of several that occurred on Thursday. Around 7 a.m. a Kia economy car was struck from behind by a truck while traveling south on Highway 69. The Kia was spun into a ditch and had to be pulled out by a towing company. The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
