Letter from Judge Steve Tittle

GREENVILLE — Editor's note: Because we ran letters to the editor regarding the upcoming March 4 elections longer than usual, the Herald-Banner extended an opportunity to both Judge Steve Tittle and Judge Andrew Bench to write a final rebuttal letter. Bench's letter can be found in today's print edition. Tittle's letter is below:

To the editor: Today is election day, and I encourage all Hunt County voters to vote. Make no mistake, there is an important option you have today regarding who will continue serving as your District Judge for the 196th Judicial District Court. The court presides over important cases ranging from death penalty cases to child custody cases that affect the lives of children and parents. We need judges who value the responsibility our courts have to the citizens of ensuring that the courts do justice and not simply seek the office for personal gain, prestige, and power. Justice is not about crafting the result a judge wants, but it is about fairly and accurately applying the law to the facts.

Since 2011, I have had the great honor and privilege of serving as your 196th Judicial District Court Judge and have always had our community and judicial system at heart. My staff and I work diligently to maintain the professionalism we exhibit and the phenomenal record we have achieved. I have served Hunt County as a public servant for over thirteen years. During my decade of service in the Hunt County District Attorney’s Office, I advocated for victims of serious felony offenses, including capital murder cases. In the over ten thousand cases that I have been involved in, I have had just a few adverse decisions by the appellate courts. That is a phenomenal record, and I attribute that in large part to being Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and achievement held by less than two percent of Texas attorneys.
