A state district judge took no action Wednesday concerning whether a suspect in a February 14 shooting death in Caddo Mills should receive a reduction in his bond.
Joshua Madison Newkirk remains in custody in the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond, charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of Joshua Edmund Gerber.
Newkirk, 28, had filed a writ from the jail, seeking the appointment of a defense attorney.
That attorney was appointed during a February 19 hearing in the 196th District Court. Judge Steve Tittle had scheduled a hearing Wednesday to consider Newkirk’s bond.
Following the hearing, however, Tittle ruled he would take Newkirk’s bond under advisement. No additional hearings were immediately scheduled.
Newkirk allegedly shot Gerber following an altercation at a residence on Farr Street in Caddo Mills.
