Planning for the worst

GREENVILLE — Hunt County and state officials will be hosting a public meeting this week, to go over plans for how to respond in the event of a natural disaster.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and Hunt County have scheduled the public hearing during the regular meeting of the Local Emergency Planning Committee of Hunt County, at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 6th floor boardroom of the Hunt Regional Medical Center, 4215 Joe Ramsey Boulevard in Greenville.

Everyone interested in the plan is being invited to attend the session, which is expected to discuss potential hazards and the severity of the hazards.

Hazard Mitigation planning is designed to identify actions that can be taken to reduce the dangers to life and property from natural hazard events, such as flooding, hurricanes, winter storms, and earthquakes. Federal regulations require the plan be updated every five years.

An approved hazard mitigation plan is also required so that Hunt County can qualify for federal funding from the certain grant programs.
