UPDATE: Victim, shooter identified

One dead, one seriously wounded in double shooting

(Continued)

ROYSE CITY —

Updated at 1:11 p.m.

A shooting incident that occurred Friday morning in the middle of a Royse City residential street left a man dead and a woman in critical condition.

Officers at the scene of the shooting – the 400 block of Cookston Lane – said the woman was still alive when she was transported from the scene by ambulance to a Dallas hospital, but the male was pronounced dead on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police Chief Jeff Stapleton said names of the victims – a husband and wife – could not be released until next-of-kin had been notified. He said the couple had a 10-year-old daughter who was at school when the shooting occurred.

Stapleton said the first call came to police about 9 a.m. as "shots fired." Then, he said, there were reports that possibly two suspects were involved in a shooting incident. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two bodies in the street.

The police chief said the man shot his wife multiple times and then turned the gun on himself. The shooting occurred in front of the couple's home.

This story will be updated as more information is received.
