County judge candidates file finance reports

GREENVILLE — The two candidates in the running to be Hunt County Judge have both provided their campaigns with sizable loans.

Incumbent Judge John Horn has received more in contributions to his campaign than Jerry Minter, although Minter has spent a lot more than Horn, according to campaign finance reports filed last week with the Hunt County Voter Administration office.

Horn and Minter are competing in the March 4 Republican Party primary. As there are no Democratic Party, third party or write-in candidates which have announced for the office, the primary will likely decide who will be the next Hunt County Judge.

Horn’s report covers the period between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2013. Horn had received $3,000 from five contributions to his campaign. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Hilton Jr. of Greenville and Jerry J. Ransom of Greenville each contributed $1,000. Ben Ashmore of Greenville donated $500, James C. Pattison of Greenville gave $400 and Fred Shelton of Greenville provided $100.

Horn gave his campaign a $10,000 personal loan and had spent $1,885.35 on his campaign as of the filing of the report.

Minter reported receiving $650 in campaign contributions. Robert or Peggy Damesworth of Leonard donated $500, Chris Bernard of Celeste contributed $100 and Graham Sweeney of Quinlan gave $100.

Minter took out a $15,000 loan from the First Bank of Celeste for his campaign and as of the filing of the report had spent $10,454.78.

Early voting is scheduled February 18-28.
