Two arrested in sting operation

GREENVILLE — Two Hunt County residents were arrested this week, following an undercover sting operation involving the theft of a generator.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office Special Crimes Division and detectives with the Commerce Police Department were reported Wednesday to have recovered the generator, valued at $1,000, during the undercover operation.

Sheriff Randy Meeks said the sting took place on the Greenville Walmart parking lot at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Richard Lane Dyer, 46, of Campbell and Jonathan Wayne Earnhart, 38, of Greenville were arrested and transported to the Hunt County Detention Center.

Both were charged with theft of property over $500. Neither of the individuals remained in custody as of Wednesday evening.

“I want to thank the Commerce Police Department in their involvement in getting these two individuals off the streets and the recovery of this stolen property,” Meeks said.

“It takes everyone working together to get these kind of results. Thefts are on the increase at this time and these arrests will help slow down these type of crimes.”
