Prison sentences issued in injury to child case

GREENVILLE — A Quinlan man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to seriously injuring two children in December 2012.

Emmett Mathew Daehn entered guilty pleas in the 196th District Court Tuesday to two counts of injury to a child by omission, recklessly causing serious bodily injury, with a jury to assess the punishment in the case.

The jury returned with a 15-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division on one indictment and a five year prison sentence on the second charge, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Daehn, 32, had been charged with one count of injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily injury and a second count of injury to a child, recklessly causing serious bodily injury. He had previously pleaded not guilty.

The Hunt County District Attorney’s Office chose to proceed with the prosecution alleging that on Dec. 17, 2012, Daehn acted recklessly along Chelsea Nichole Mosley in injuring one male and one female child of less than 14 years of age, in fracturing the ribs of the children and/or failing to provide adequate care for the victims.

Mosley has an interim hearing on her charges scheduled in the court June 25.

The injury to a child, recklessly causing serious bodily injury is a second degree felony, punishable by a maximum sentence upon conviction of from two to 20 years in prison and an optional $10,000 fine.
