GREENVILLE — Trial is scheduled to begin next week for a local man, indicted on multiple counts of aggravated assault.

Jury selection is set today in the 354th District Court for Robert Michael Larson, 37, of Greenville on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence. Larson has pleaded not guilty. Opening arguments and the start of testimony are scheduled in the case for Dec. 10.

Larson and William Larson Jr., 43, also of Greenville, each received two indictments in September for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence. William Larson was alleged to have threatened Robert Larson, and also a female victim, with a hammer on August 4. Robert Larson was alleged to have used a pistol to threaten William Larson and another female victim on the same date.

A sealed indictment for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was also issued by the Hunt County grand jury in September against Robert Larson, alleging he threatened a male victim with a pistol on May 24. Trial has not been scheduled in that case.

Aggravated assault/family violence is a first degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison and a maximum fine of up to $10,000.

Prosecutors have filed a notice with the court, seeking to introduce evidence of Larson’s record of previous convictions — including counts of robbery and deadly conduct — in an effort to enhance the eventual punishment he might receive.
