— A Quinlan woman has been placed on probation after pleading guilty to attacking another woman with a pipe in Commerce last month.

During a hearing Wednesday in the 354th District Court, Ashley Louise Roberts, 20, entered a plea of guilty to a charge of injury to an elderly individual causing serious bodily injury.

According to a criminal complaint filed as part of court records, Commerce Police Department officers responded early on the morning of June 2 to a report of a disturbance at an apartment in the 200 block of Hickory Street and learned Roberts had struck a 66-year-old female victim in the head with a pipe.

Under a plea bargain arrangement, Roberts was placed on five years of deferred adjudication probation, with 100 hours of community service and a $500 fine.

Deferred adjudication probation carries no finding of guilt, although those defendants who are found to have violated a deferred probation are subject to being sentenced to the maximum punishment.

Roberts was facing a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000 upon conviction for the first degree felony charge.
