New charge filed against officer assault suspect

GREENVILLE — A new charge has been filed against a Greenville man, who previously has pleaded not guilty to threatening local police officers with a knife.

William Arthur Larson Jr. was indicted in March on two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant with a deadly weapon and one count of resisting arrest with a deadly weapon.

A fourth charge, of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, was filed against Larson in the 354th District Court on August 1.

No arraignment date was set on the charge and no additional details were immediately available.

Larson, 44, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail.

Larson entered not guilty pleas to three counts during an April 17 arraignment hearing in the 196th District Court. A trial date has not been set in the case.

According to a report from the Greenville Police Department, officers responded early on the morning of February 12 to a call from a man who stated that he had been stabbed. Officers learned that Larson was inside the residence on Jones Street.

Larson allegedly displayed a large knife and moved aggressively toward the officers before being subdued with a Taser and disarmed.

Larson pleaded guilty in 1993 to a charge of aggravated robbery, in connection with a hold-up of a business in the 1800 block of Johnson Street in May of that year, was sentenced to life in prison and ordered to pay $550,000 in restitution to the victim.
