— In his last Hunt County Commissioners Court meeting, Precinct 3 Commissioner Larry Middlebrooks said he wanted to thank the people of Hunt County for allowing him to serve.

“I want to thank the people of this county to be on this commissioners court,” he said.

Middlebrooks said in his last term, hard decisions were made.

“The times we’ve had in the past four years have been hard,” he said. “But I’ve tried to be fair and equitable to everyone.”

Middlebrooks said it was a privilege given to him to serve.

“It’s been a privilege and an honor to serve here,” he said. “God gave me that privilege. I want to thank everyone in this court.”

Also stepping down after 16 years of service was Kenneth Thornton, Precinct 3 commissioner.

“I feel very honored to have worked here,” Thornton said. “And I feel like it’s time to step down and have a few good years to enjoy my retirement.”

Middlebrooks will be replaced by Republican Phillip A. Martin, and Republican Erica Evans will fill Thornton’s position in the first meeting of the 2013 year.
