Grand jury returns burglary, assault indictments

GREENVILLE — Two local residents and a Tarrant County man have been indicted for allegedly stealing a safe from a Greenville fast food restaurant.

A Wolfe City woman and a woman from Commerce have received aggravated assault indictments in connection with incidents in March of this year and from March 2011.

The charges were handed up Friday by the Hunt County grand jury, for consideration by the 354th District Court.

The grand jury, which was seated earlier this month, began its six-month term running through December.

The previous grand jury, which served the 196th District Court, wrapped up its term in June.

The current grand jury issued 36 indictments Friday, including four indictments issued sealed pending the arrest and arraignment of the person or persons named in the charges.

— William Kirk Dunning, 35; Derrick Matthew Garcia, 26; and Jonathan Paul Williams, 27, each received one indictment for burglary of a building. Dunning and Garcia, both of Greenville, and Williams of Fort Worth, were alleged in the indictments to have acted together to steal or attempt to steal a safe from the Sonic restaurant in Greenville on April 29.

— Vicki Cates Higgs, 52, Wolfe City, received one indictment for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Higgs was alleged in the indictment to have cut a male victim with a knife on March 5, 2011.

— Nancy Maria Leija, 24, Commerce, received one indictment for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Leija was alleged in the indictment to have used a hammer to threaten a female victim on March 4.
