Arrest made in convenience store robbery

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Police Department announced it has made an arrest in Thursday’s reported armed robbery of a local convenience store.

The R&K Mart at 3805 Lee Street was robbed Thursday afternoon by a white male who displayed a rifle and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect left the store possibly in a vehicle operated by a female who drove east on Lee Street.

Officers investigating the felony offense reviewed video and a suspect was identified as Timothy Wayne Fortune, Jr., a 23-year old white male.

Fortune and Chad Ray Bennett, a 39-year old white male were located in the 1500 block of Division Street. Fortune agreed to be interviewed at the police station and was transported there.

Bennett was arrested for an unrelated charge of Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon.

A warrant on a charge of aggravated robbery was served it on Fortune. The investigation also led to the recovery of US currency believed taken in the robbery.

A search warrant was also served on Bennett’s home at 1240 Cleveland Street shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday and officers recovered the weapon believed used in the robbery.

Chanda Bennett, a 34-year old white female, was arrested at the location on an unrelated Rains County warrant.

All three individuals are Greenville residents and all have been jailed at the Hunt County Criminal Justice Center.

The announcement from the police department indicated the offense is still under investigation.
