Wineinger warns of local tax scam

GREENVILLE — Hunt County Tax Assessor-Collector Randy Wineinger is warning local residents of a tax scam designed to steal personal information.

According to Wineinger, his office has received multiple reports from the community that individuals have been solicited by phone and mail for personal information.

“These solicitors are claiming to be employees of the tax office,” he said. “Our office does not contact anyone for personal information by phone or mail. Residents of Hunt County should not give out any type of personal information, including credit card numbers and social security numbers.”

Wineinger urged residents to contact the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office at 903-453-6800 if they are contacted by someone asking for personal information.
