Updated: Sheriff investigating report of livestock death

GREENVILLE — The Hunt County Sheriff's Office is reported to be investigating the death of a livestock animal.

"We are investigating a livestock death, is all I can say," according to Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks.

Hunt County Judge John Horn said his office was contacted early this morning concerning the incident, which occurred at the Lakota Ranch just outside of Greenville.

"I subsequently notified the proper authorities," Horn said, noting officers with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife, Department of Homeland Security and sheriff office were involved in the investigation.

"This incident is being taken very, very seriously because of the implications," Horn said.

Additional details will be released when they become available.
