We are often told as children to dream big, to reach for the stars and fulfill our potential.
Ford High School graduate Bryan Melton has taken that advice literally.
A 2005 graduate of FHS, Melton has entered the Axe Apollo Space Academy competition for a chance to fly more than 100 kilometers into space with the space tourism company SPACEEXC.
He is currently ranked 61, and has reached out to his hometown of Quinlan to request support. Individuals can vote for Meldon by visiting www2.axeapollo.com/en_US/69402/bryan-melton?image=0. To vote, individuals must have a Facebook account.
Melton graduated magna cum laude from SMU in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a second bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He was active in music and band while at FHS, according to QISD’s Director of School and Community Relations Tiffony Upchurch, and held the drum major position for two years.
He also held the drum major position for the SMU Mustang band for three years until he graduated. According to Upchurch, Melton is currently a senior mechanical engineer at Raytheon Company. He supports various defense programs in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.
