Arson charge dismissed against one suspect

GREENVILLE — A trial for one of two men, indicted on arson charges in connection with an allegedly set fire in Greenville during the summer of 2010, has been rescheduled.

The arson charge filed against the second suspect has been dismissed.

Anthony Lawone Lewis, 32, of Greenville and Ronnie Darryle Lewis, 51, who has listed addresses in both Greenville and Fort Worth in court records, had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Jury selection for both defendants was set for Monday morning in the 196th District Court and the Hunt County District Attorney’s Office has subpoenaed some 40 witnesses to testify during the trial.

However, the trial for Ronnie Lewis was reset for June 23, after it was reported he remained in federal custody as of Monday.

The indictment against Anthony Lewis was listed as dismissed as of Monday.

The Lewises each received one indictment for arson from the Hunt County grand jury in January 2011.

The indictments alleged they were two of three people who set a fire or caused an explosion which damaged a residence in the 1400 block of Jackson’s Run in Greenville on July 20, 2010.

Arson is a second-degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from two to 20 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
