GEUS warning of telephone scam

GREENVILLE — The local electric utility system is warning of a telephone scam operating in the area. A notice issued from GEUS this afternoon:

Several GEUS customers were contacted today by phone with the caller stating their utilities would be terminated within the hour if they didn’t make a payment immediately over the phone.

At least one customer fell victim to the scam and sent money.

“GEUS does not solicit payments over the phone nor do we accept phone payments”, said Consumer Services Manager Jimmy Dickey.  “Anyone questioning the validity of a GEUS employee, in person or over the phone, should immediately call 903-457-2800,” Dickey added.
