Grand jury returns dog fighting indictments

Two charged with being involved in local operation

GREENVILLE — Two Greenville teenagers have been indicted on charges they participated in a local dog fighting ring.

The Hunt County grand jury returned the indictments Friday against Kavante Rashad Davis and Dakalin Edwards. The panel also indicted a Dallas County resident for allegedly attacking a man with a sledge hammer earlier this month, while a local man was indicted for allegedly trying to take a peace officer’s weapon.

— Davis, 18, and Edwards, 18, both of Greenville, each received one indictment alleging they were part of a dog fighting ring operating locally. Davis was alleged in his indictment to have been involved in a dog fight on March 26, while Edwards was accused of being involved in a dog fight on April 8.

Adrian OBrian Jackson, 27, of Greenville, was sentenced in September to a term in state jail after pleading guilty to hosting multiple dog fighting matches at his residence.

Jackson , David and Edwards were three of six local residents arrested and charged in connection with the dog fighting operation.

Edwards remained in custody at the Hunt County Jail Friday, also charged with five counts of burglary of a vehicle and one count of theft.

— Thomas Allen Malone, 45, Seagoville, received one indictment for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Malone was alleged in the indictment to have used a shovel and/or a sledgehammer to threaten a male victim on November 1.

— Tyrone Denard Anderson, 43, Greenville, received one indictment for attempting to take peace officer’s weapon. Anderson was alleged in the indictment to have attempted to remove a law enforcement officer’s firearm on Sept. 25, 2012. The indictment indicated Anderson had been convicted of the same charge in 1997 and also had been convicted of three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of delivery of a controlled substance since 1991.
