One arrested following reported assault, manhunt

One man was arrested early Wednesday morning, following a reported assault with a weapon south of Lone Oak Tuesday night.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks reported his office received a call at approximately 7:35 p.m. Tuesday of a domestic disturbance involving an assault with a large piece of wood. The location was on Shoreline Drive in Rolling Hills North off of FM 513.

“Upon arrival, deputies were advised by witnesses that the suspect had ran out the back door of the residence wielding a machete,” Meeks said. “Deputies with the assistance of other agencies as well as a DPS helicopter set up a perimeter on Shoreline Drive and along the bank of a lake nearby.”

Meeks said the DPS helicopter searched the area into the night but was unable to locate the suspect from the air.

“While deputies were taking witness statements next door, a door to the residence opened and a male subject entered,” Meeks said/ “Deputies then set a perimeter around the residence so that the suspect could not escape. Deputies entered the residence and after a short altercation, they were able to take the suspect into custody for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as well being arrested on an assault warrant. The victim and male suspect were checked by medical personnel at the scene but neither was transported to the hospital.”

The suspect was transported to the Hunt County Jail to be booked on both the aggravated assault charge and the warrant. The suspect’s name was not immediately released Wednesday afternoon as he had not yet been arraigned on the charges.

“I want to commend Reserve Deputy Houston Pitts in the capture and arrest of this dangerous suspect,” Meeks said.
