Talking weapons and conservatism

GREENVILLE — Area Republicans have two big events on next week’s calendar in Greenville.

The Rockwall County District Attorney will be presenting information on the weapons law in Texas, while Hunt County’s representative in the Texas House is to be honored for his conservative voting record.

— The public is invited to hear Rockwall County Criminal District Attorney Kenda Culpepper present a program on “A Comprehensive Overview of Texas Weapons Law” during Monday’s meeting of the Hunt County GOP Club starting at 7 p.m. in The Landmark on Lee, 2920 Lee Street in Greenville.

Culpepper intends to discuss Texas weapons law, with a focus on legal descriptions of different weapons and the legal defenses to various statutes, referencing actual cases to illustrate the nuances in the law. Culpepper will also distribute a free booklet on weapons law that she co-authored.

Culpepper served on the faculty of the “WEST” (Weapons Education Safety Training) program from 1996 to 2008. The class teaches weapons law and law regarding self defense and protection of property to groups including attorneys and law enforcement officers, and she is considered an expert on these subjects by many of her colleagues.

Monday’s program is free and open to the public.

— State Rep. Dan Flynn (R-Van) is to be recognized as a 2013 Courageous Conservative during a Town Hall meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, also in the Landmark on Lee Street. Flynn and members of the Texas Conservative Coalition plan to discuss conservative victories during the 83rd Texas Legislature, as well as future policy goals.

The meeting is free, but those attending are being asked to register online at RepFlynnTownHall.eventbrite.com.
