Guilty plea in ambulance theft case

GREENVILLE — A local man, charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing an ambulance, will not face any additional jail time after pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

Jury selection was set Monday in the 354th District Court for Chad Lamar Skinner, 42, of Greenville on an indictment of theft of property of the value of between $100,000 and $200,000. He had pleaded not guilty.

Instead, Skinner pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass and under a plea bargain arrangement was sentenced to 90 days in the Hunt County Jail, with 90 days credit for time served.

The original indictment alleged Skinner stole an ambulance belonging to American Medical Response (AMR) on February 16, 2012.

The indictment was issued sealed by the Hunt County grand jury in December, pending Skinner’s arrest and arraignment on the charge. The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office took Skinner into custody on January 18.

The charge was a second degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from two to 20 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
