Man shot following altercation

One man was in stable condition at a Dallas hospital Friday evening, after being shot earlier in the day, following an altercation just south of Greenville.

Neither the identity of the victim, who is from Caddo Mills, nor the identity of the individual who fired the shots, had been released as of Friday evening and no arrests had been reported, as the investigation continued into the incident, which apparently resulted from a disagreement over a parking spot, according to Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks.

Meeks reported his office was contacted at 10:29 a.m. Friday about a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of Bethel Road. Before deputies arrived on the scene, the sheriff’s communications division received another call from the same location, this time reporting shots had been fired.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find one subject had suffered two gunshot wounds.

Upon further investigation it was determined that the homeowner and the wounded subject had got into an altercation resulting in the homeowner shooting the subject.

“The wounded subject was transported by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas in critical condition,” Meeks said. “The homeowner and two witnesses were unharmed. This is an ongoing investigation with our Criminal Investigation Division.”

Meeks later indicated that the shooting came about following an argument between the homeowner and the victim.

“He had parked his car on the homeowner’s property, and then went across the road to the Town and Country Mobile Home Park,” Meeks said.

The victim returned to the vehicle a few moments later.

“That’s when the altercation took place,” Meeks said. “I think there was a struggle over the gun at some point.”
